The Last Days of Peyton…Sexy?? PART 3 & 4 (the conclusion) By Figlosopher

The Last Day By Figlosopher

On this Monday morning we wake up to hear that the Cardinals and Broncos are the top 2 teams on Peyton’s list. Peyton obviously is not trying to waste anyone’s time, and has clearly only gone to visit with teams he has a real interest in.

What are the pros for Peyton going to Arizona? As Kurt Warner was preaching, it is the flexibilty of the coaching staff, their ability to adapt to Peyton’s style like they did for Kurt a few years ago, the weather, they play in a dome, and their BIG play target Larry Fitzgerald. Word is the Cardinals really, really want Manning and are willing to show him the money. The cons are like the cons with most teams, nothing is guaranteed and will Manning want to change conferences and the familiarity that comes with it, to go to a not so sure thing? Probably not.

Denver seems to have a legitimate chance to get Manning now because it is John Elway who is standing there telling Manning he wants him and how great he is and how much he KNOWS Peyton will be able to Win a Championship for him, I mean it’s JOHN ELWAY, and as I said about the Bucs having an attractive piece to dangle in a trade, it is now a big thought that the Broncos would dangle Tim Tebow at a starving a Jacksonvile team that is PERFECT for Tim Tebow having played at Florida and even their roster which is filled with power running backs headlined by MJD. Imagine how much Tebow mania would grow, and the leverage that would give the Broncos over Jacksonville in that deal? They could most certainly get a 1st or 2nd round pick from the Jaguars. So that is a very enticing pitch, John Elway wants you! That is mind blowing to a QB who grew up watching the NFL in the 80”s and emulated QBs in the 90’s.

WELCOME TO MIAMI

Now here is the team that was undoubtedly the favorite even before the Colts cut Peyton Manning. Peyton does not have any scheduled meetings with the Dolphins, but he has a residence in Miami so that is a mute point. Will the Dolphins try and have Dan Marino recruit Peyton, obviously he is not in control of the organization like Elway, but he can offer Peyton something that Elway can not, an opportunity to bring something that Marino himself could not bring to Miami, a championship. Then there is the competition and the personalities of the competition in the AFC East. He would face Tom Brady and Bill, as well as Rex Ryan 2 times a year and what else would NFL fans want to see than that? Imagine Rex Ryan’s press conferences with 4 guaranteed match-ups versus those 2 quarterbacks!! Weekly battles in that division would be worth watching nationally, and just like the NFC East, it could even prepare your team for a championship.

Of course Miami has the weather, the taxes, the familiarity to the town, the stars like LeBron recruiting him to bring his talents to South Beach. The Lure of surpassing a legend has to tug at Peyton he already replaced Johnny U as the face of Colts “quarterbacking”, and now here he stands with the opportunity to bring to an organization that had probably the second best regular season QB of all-time something that he never could, glory and Legendary tales await Peyton, and not with the Cardinals or John Elway’s Broncos but with the only team to go undefeated, a team with a fan base hungry and appreciative of great

Peyton…Sexy?? Day 4 By Figlosopher

We now know Washington will be drafting RG3 after their blockbuster deal with the Rams, so let’s just insert the Denver Broncos here.

While the thought of Peyton playing for the same organization as the great John Elway and fan phenom Tim Tebow is truly sexy, I just don’t see him deciding to play for the Broncos, they have a nice mix no doubt, but something just seems to be missing in Denver for me, sure it gets cold, but that’s not it, they could use a more versatile TE, but that’s not it. I just don’t see it.
Maybe it’s the fact that John won in Denver and most importantly, he left a winner, instant comparisons will be made between Elway and Manning, and bringing two championships to the Broncos will only tie Elway’s legend.

I will bring you my final two tomorrow.

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!! That’s the last cheer that the Jets should have in the Peyton Manning sweepstakes. There are many reasons why I do not see the Jets acquiring Manning. Here they are:

The Coach: Even though Rex Ryan adores Peyton I do not see Peyton wnting to play for Rex, a coach who routinely puts a Bulls Eye on his organization. Can you see Peyton answering questions about how Rex just said Tom Brady is a f*&^ng bum compared to him? Me neither.

The Town:The same things that we applaud Eli for now, his demeanor and steady calmness, are not particularly Peyton’s strengths. He is by all accounts a fiery and vocal guy and that works better in a less critical market like Indianapolis opposed to New York City, especially since Peyton is not at his zenith, as Bill Simmons would say.

His Brother: I don’t see Peyton wanting to share a town with his younger brother who has come into his own, owns the town, and has one more ring than him. Furthermore there is a perception that the Mannings would like to keep their influence over the league spread out into different media markets/regions and not just one, even if it is New York City.

The Team:The Jets just don’t have the WR’s or the offensive line to compliment Peyton Manning’s offensive gameplan. And I even question the Jets’ ability to pass rush the QB.

to be continued…

Peyton…Sexy? Day 2 By Figlosopher

So, let’s look at the Tampa Bay Bucs at my number 5 spot. This is my favorite location for Peyton to land. The number one reason for this is because the Bucs have an attractive piece in QB Marcus Freeman that they can shop now for additional players to put around Peyton and cause some real up-rise in that South Division.

I can easily see a Peyton lead Bucs team beating the Falcons and the Panthers, that only leaves the Saints as their competition. The Bucs organization already has won a championship and they play pretty much the same kind of Cover 2 Defense they played when Tony Dungy, Peyton’s former SB coach, installed in Tampa. Therefore the Defense is geared to create turnovers and capitalize off of other teams trying to catch up to a high scoring offense that a HEALTHY Peyton Manning orchestrates.

I am sure that a young QB such as Freeman will get Tampa Bay draft picks and players especially after RG3 and Andrew Luck are off the board……to be continued again

So the biggest wet dream of sports talk, at least until the next big wet dream, is where will the newly free free agent, Peyton Manning end up? Here is a preliminary top 5 (which does not include the Texans who pulled themselves out of the running already)

1. Miami dolphins 2. Arizona cardinals 3. Washington redskins 4. New York jets 5. Tampa Bay Bucs 6. Jacksonville jaguars

The consensus is that Peyton Manning should play in a hot weather town or in a dome stadium. Yes, I know that I put 6 teams and Jacksonville is not technically a team, especially in Manning’s eyes but just like Vick, Manning has the potential to get a “dream team” to follow him to Jacksonville. I know it’s a pipe dream and it won’t happen, but why can’t I throw the first curveball? ..I’ll get back to this.

Linsanity had it’s first major setback last night, the first time a team decided to play full court, get in you, defense to slow down and exploit a weakness of the knicks and Jeremy, his ball handle, does this make it 12pm for Linderella? Maybe, but just like Cinderella found love, Lin needs to fine, tune his handle. A happy ending still can exist, now why didn’t the Knicks big 2 step up and keep the Knicks close in the 2nd half? I understand not bringing Melo over for the fear of inviting LeBron to trap Lin, but Stat had a little bounce in his step and if he and Melo could play off of each other the Knicks would have won this game, the first half seemed like a mismatch everywhere except on the scoreboard, all be it Wade and a few other Heat players missed on typically routine scoring opportunities for them, the facts is that Stat plays better with a 3pt shooting sf like Gallinari who pulls players away from him. The Knicks’ fans are ready to trade Stat but in the real world no one is trading for a player one year after he signed a big contract, sirens go off in an opposing GM’s head. Melo is at his peak and does incorporate the 3 pointer into his game, just at his pace. It’s up to Mike D’Antoni to figure out how these players fit. It’s the fan’s job to want results now.

They wheeze he cheeses, just when they get close he slaps away their hands, and then there is the ability to trust his teammates and believe that they will make the play for him. WR Steve Smith is one of those teammates, one who in this Madden ratings age of what have you done for me lately was thought to be washed up emerged as the big play threat that he always was, it wasn’t his fault the QB position was really bad the last couple of years. Steve Smith and TE Greg Olsen give Cam very explosive players at their positions and he has shown the trust in his weapons and his own skills and the commitment from the coaching staff to tailor the offense towards him has shown that talent is talent and confidence is confidence. The deep throws that Cam has been able to throw have been benefited from the threat of the run or the run option. Cam has the strength and swagger to make DBs think twice about tackling him. 400yds! more than once too are you serious?? That’s the question that everyone asked after wk 1.
10 Thoughts 2 Days Later by Figlosopher

June 14, 2011

Here are my thoughts on the NBA Finals (two days later)

1. LeBron James failed again in the big moment, basically removing himself from being a scorer. His first few shots, which were just that shots and not drives to the basket, seemed to be a “see I can score, IF I wanted to!” moment. Need I say more?

2. James’ after game comments were not directed to poor people or the common man (in my opinion), Dan Gilbert and Skip Bayless are not poor, but they are two of LeBron’s biggest detractors, we all have problems in our lives.

3. The Mavericks helped bring balance to the NBA. Just when every GM was going to have to blow up his roster and trade for stars, a team with one Star won the
Finals.

4. The Heat’s BIG 3 made the Finals in their FIRST year together.

5. Dirk had one of the great postseasons in NBA History, highlighted by having most of NBA fans actually rooting for his team.

6. Rick Carlisle has been a very good coach for a while. I’m glad to see he has a ring.

7. Erik Spoelstra got out coached, mostly because he let Rick make his subs for him. House and Chalmers on the court at the same time? The Mavs played 2 or 3 guards at the same time ALL YEAR. Where was the “BIG 5” (Wade, Miller, James, Haslem, and Bosh) lineup that Miami payed for in the summer? The same lineup that closed out Chicago. Who cares if Miller couldn’t shoot? He played defense and rebounded, something the Heat did not do down the stretch. Chalmers handling the ball along with Wade and James only complicated things in late game situations.

8. Chris Bosh played really well in the last 3 games, too bad he wasn’t given the proper touches in the 2nd half of those games.

9. As well as Dwayne Wade played in these Finals, the only games the Heat won, were the games that LeBron James had an effect on. Game 3 to a lesser effect, but he made the pass to Bosh in the corner. As much as this Finals was about LeBron and his actions, which definitely influenced Wade, Wade still had a FT to tie game 4 and still lost the ball on the last possession. He had a bad game 6, period. All the great things Wade did never resulted in a win. Remember Wade left his hand up and walked down the court before the Mavs comeback in game 2. If you don’t think the Mavs cared about that just look at game 6 when Haslem, doing the same thing, almost started a fight.

10. A ring absolves you of everything, look at Wade and Dirk. With the talent of Wade, Dirk, and LeBron you have to show up when you win those championships. Until LeBron shows up in a Finals series win, he will not be absolved. After? Well you can fail your team like Wade this year or Dirk in ‘06 and it’s okay.

Is It Just Me? by figlosopher

Is it just me? Or are the Heat acting like they’re recording artist rappers? Come on people it can’t just be me…Let’s forget “The Decision” or even the much less publicized, Bosh & Wade announcement on ESPN to Michael Wilbon. These guys play for the crowd more than any group of players have in years, as I write this I think of Reggie Miller grabbing his you know, at the Garden years ago. I’m a Knicks fan but boy was that great!

These Heat stars don’t want to shut up the crowd though, they want the unthinkable…cheers, not at home, but on the road. Think about this, they want to perform a great show, and get cheers on the road!! As if they were on tour, clearly the Heatles forgot that they are not a traveling band, that fans want to see them lose, and get embarrassed, and yes cry…they are the equivalent of recording artists, not battle rappers. Battle rappers understand that there is a local favorite when they get to town, they understand that they are going to get booed and that, win or lose, at the end of the night they might get respect but never love, and that’s just fine with them. The Heatles want you to hold their hand, too bad they don’t want you to suck their…well you know.

June 12, 2011

Dear LeBron,

Thank you for coming into our lives just two years after we “lost” our most recent favorite athlete to watch. You have all the physical skills that virtually guarantee success in your sport, barring injury of course. Yet there you are, failing in the most pivotal of moments, the NBA finals. Sure you were great in the last two series, that only makes it more interesting to watch you struggle now. Not only do you struggle though, no, you give us so much more to watch and talk about. In this era of talk radio, various sports shows, and 24/7 coverage you give us exactly what we need. Oh, did I mention the fact that you still have yet to win a championship? Thank you LeBron!

We watched you, YOU LeBron James, possibly the most talented basketball player to ever play NBA basketball, join another great player’s team, a player who is not as talented as you, but who has something you want, that ring. That player is Dwayne Wade, and not only does he have a ring, but he EARNED it. We have seen you seem socially awkward all season, starting with how you handled the night of “The Decision” even before the cameras went on. You ignored the Cavs and every other team you were going to turn down that night. Going back to last year against Boston, and now this year versus the Mavs when you have failed, you have confounded us with your odd behavior. We make our sports drama more dramatic. It will be a shame if and when you do capture your first ring.

For now though, you remind us of Marino, Kobe After Shaq, Peyton Manning, and most definitely A-Rod. Once again thank you so much.
